The owners of Artisan Bread Company, Alexander and Tanya Strugatsky, are trained engineers that bake bread in its purest form. Born in Russia, they started their business several years ago, baking out of their garage that was later converted into a professional bakery. They currently bake more than 30 different varieties of breads, including a rare borodinsky (a 100% rye sourdough) that originated in early 19th century Russia. Tanya worked for years adapting the recipe to the different ingredients found in America. They use high quality flours and “grow” their starter for sourdough. Bread doughs are not frozen – all are baked fresh. They sell at local farmers markets and at their store on King’s Highway. Visit their Facebook site for market information. The Northern Neck Dessert Co. is proud to partner with Old Farm Truck. Kristen Shirilla, owner, operator and head baker has been in business since she baked her first cake. Admittedly, for the first several years, her clients and most trusted taste testers, were close friends and family.
With the idea that life is sweeter when you eat dessert first, she has created many indulgent-worthy treats. Signature chocolate cake, coconut cake, carrot cake, and brownies are some of the more popular items. Try one and you won't be disappointed.

Sub Rosa is a wood fired bakery and stone-milling operation located in the historic neighborhood of Church Hill in Richmond, Virginia, specializing in the timeless craft of bread and pastry using organic, regional, and heirloom grains.
Everything they bake comes from a wood fired masonry oven. Whenever possible, they use organic fruits, meats and vegetables grown on Virginia soil. They also use certified organic flour and sugar. The wheat, corn and rye that they freshly stone-mill in house is also organic and they strive to use locally grown, heirloom varieties. They also serve Lamplighter Coffee, which thoughtfully sources their beans and roasts them in Richmond, Virginia.

A native of the Northern Neck, Eileen Carter has been baking most of her life -- starting around age 13.
“I won a blue ribbon at the school bake off and it got me very excited about baking,” she said.
Eileen's well known for her delicious pound cakes. She uses fresh ingredients in her baking, including fresh local eggs and garden herbs.
She lives in Heathsville with her husband, Herman. They have three kids and six grandchildren.
The Old Farm Truck also offers fine baked goods from Joanna Hyde, who resides in Morratico.
